"Gift Health" Initiative Launched to Combat Child Malnutrition

Malnutrition continues to threaten the lives of millions of children across Nigeria, especially in urban low-income areas where access to nutritious food and basic healthcare is limited. In many communities, parents struggle to provide balanced meals leading to cases of acute malnutrition that can impact a child's overall development.

Recognizing this critical issue, Cardgoal has joined hands with HEI beyond its fintech services. Health Emergency Initiative (HEI) is a non-profit organization that helps vulnerable communities. HEI provides financial aid and emergency health support to these communities. The organization also assists malnourished children in Nigeria, addressing one of the country’s most urgent needs. Through a meaningful collaboration with the Health Emergency Initiative, we are going to launch the "Gift Health" project this month. Through this initiative, Cardgoal can directly contribute to improving the lives of malnourished children and vulnerable families in Nigeria.

From Awareness to Action: Driving Lasting Change Through Gift Health

When considering how to create a meaningful change, Cardgoal chose to focus on making a lasting impact. Before launching this initiative, we took time to understand where support was needed most. Through surveys and conversations with health workers and families, we discovered a powerful insight. Our role could go beyond awareness. As a brand rooted in connection and trust, Cardgoal recognized its ability to bridge communities and causes. While known for simplifying gift card trading, Cardgoal is equally committed to advancing child welfare and health equity,  not just by raising awareness about malnutrition, but by helping foster lasting resilience and long-term wellbeing.

Purpose of "Gift Health" Initiative

Cardgoal X HEI "Gift Health" collaboration is a community driven initiative designed to fight malnutrition among vulnerable families in Lagos State. Below are some key activities highlighting how this initiative will create a lasting impact on the community;

Screening of Malnourished Children

To assess malnutrition accurately, each child's Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) and weight for height ratio will be measured.

Caregiver Training and Nutrition Counseling

Mothers and caregivers will take part in training sessions that teach proper feeding, breastfeeding, hygiene, and meal preparation.

Distribution of RUTF and Nutrition Tools

Children diagnosed with acute malnutrition will receive Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) and essential supplies.

Monitoring of Severe Cases

Cardgoal works with HEI and PHC (Primary Health Care centers) partners to fund ongoing monitoring and ensure that no child is left untreated due to financial barriers.

Who We're Helping?

Primary beneficiaries: 215 children aged 0–5 suffer from or at risk of malnutrition

Secondary beneficiaries: Caregivers and parents

Indirect beneficiaries: The local community will benefit from stronger health systems and increased awareness about nutrition.

A Brighter Tomorrow Through Cardgoal's Support

Through our partnership with HEI, we are working on the ground in Lagos to tackle malnutrition and support healthier communities. Each contribution, no matter the size, helps provide awareness, education and hope to those who need it most. Over the coming months, we’ll share stories, photos, and updates showing how Cardgoal's partnership with HEI transforms lives. Stay tuned for more updates!
