For too many families in Nigeria, feeding a child is no longer just a daily task. It has become a profound challenge shaped by limited access to balanced diets and lack of financial support system. Malnutrition has quietly become one of the most pressing issues affecting children’s wellbeing in Nigeria. Recognising the depth of this challenge, Cardgoal and HEI under the patronage of Lagos State Government, officially launched the "Gift Health" campaign on November 25, 2025 in Ikeja, Lagos.
While many Nigerian families may view this as unachievable due to economic challenges, our goal goes beyond simply holding an event. Through a structured 90 day program, this initiative aims to make a lasting impact, turning what seems difficult today into achievable results for the future.
Purpose of "Gift Health" Child Malnutrition Campaign
Just like Cardgoal helps people in Nigeria to trade gift cards easily, its social initiatives focus on supporting child nutrition and family wellbeing. This campaign will build a culture of health awareness about the critical years of child development. In collaboration with health agencies and local governments, Cardgoal aims to reduce malnutrition related illness and child mortality in vulnerable communities.
Key Activities at the Gift Health Nutrition Program
Launch of the 3 Month Therapeutic Monitoring Program
To support families in need, the Gift Health program has begun a 90-day recovery monitoring program, by reaching vulnerable households across eight local government and local council development areas in Lagos
Cost Effective Nutritional Training
The goal is not to provide food or health support as a one-time charity. The budget friendly nutritional training took place in the event to teach families how to care for their children’s nutrition by preparing nutrition rich recipies.
On-Site Health Check-Ups & Supplementation
During the event, the medical staff did medical screenings of the children to identify acute cases. Therapeutic foods and supplements were given immediately to those in need.
Skills Training for Mothers
For the long term financial security, low-income mothers will receive guidance and support to learn skills.
Collaborative Efforts with Local Government Support
The launch of the 3-Month Therapeutic Monitoring Program brought together key stakeholders, government officials, and community partners. The involvement of local government ensures that interventions are sustainable and have a meaningful impact on children’s health and development.
How the Government Officials Sees the Child Malnutrition Issue?
Government Perspective on Malnutrition
Olufemi Omololu, Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District VI, highlighted the alarming rate of malnutrition in Nigeria, noting that the country ranks second globally in child malnutrition. He stressed the urgent need for programs that identify malnourished children, provide nutritional support, and empower mothers. He also emphasized that both fathers and mothers play vital roles in the success of such programs.
Health Implications and Awareness
Pascal Achunine, Executive Director of Health Emergency Initiative (HEI), explained the long-term effects of malnutrition on children. He said it can lead to stunted growth, reduced cognitive abilities, and lasting health problems. He stressed that early intervention is essential to safeguard children’s physical and mental development.
Corporate Responsibility and Community Engagement
Cardgoal representatives, including Stephen Anyakuam, spoke about the company’s commitment to giving back. They described the Cardgoal's initiative as "profit-return," where it reinvests in the communities that support their growth. Anyakuam also encouraged parents to prioritize their children’s nutrition despite economic challenges. He also mentioned that consistent effort may not show immediate results but will benefit children greatly in the long run.
Expected Outcomes for the 90-Day Health Monitoring Program
Cardgoal didn't just launch the program, it is taking responsibility to follow up on the children’s recovery. Over the next 90 days; the health, weight, and nutrition of each child will be closely monitored to make sure they are improving.
What Will be Monitored
- Regular updates on children’s health and growth.
- Tracking how well children are responding to nutrition support.
- Showing how caregivers are applying what they learned.
- Highlighting any challenges and next steps for support.
Standing with Nigerian Children For a Better Tomorrow
Cardgoal is stepping up in a big way, showing that businesses can care as much as they earn. With the Gift Health Initiative, they teamed up with local governments and HEI to make a long-lasting impact. Cardgoal and HEI are not just handing out supplements, they are investing in bright, stronger futures.
Positive Impact Reflected by Beneficiaries
The success of the Gift Health program was evident in the feedback from beneficiaries, who expressed gratitude for the knowledge they received.
